Brush Fire Threatens Home - Friday, March 13, 2009 at 4:49PM EST

Porter Township, Lycoming County-

A close call Friday after a brush fire sparked up just outside Jersey Shore.

The blaze started just a few feet from a nearby house on Cement Road in Porter Township.

Firefighters say the flare up was caused by a burn barrel left unattended.

A decent-sized patch of brush was destroyed, but firefighters doused the flames before any more damage was done.

Fire Chief Brian Flook said, “The fire luckily traveled a different direction from the property. It was very close to one shed, and gaining on two others.”

A passerby saw the flames and called 911. Firefighters had the blaze under control in about 15 minutes.
