BERWICK, COLUMBIA COUNTY- Set in the theater of historic football, George Curry's Wyoming Valley West Spartans paid a visit to Crispin Field, where they challenged the Bewick Bulldogs.
The game has been the talk of the area for months: a match-up of two undefeated teams and the return of Coach Curry. Curry joined Valley West a year and a half ago, leaving a legacy of victory at Berwick. Curry commands the most wins by any high school football coach in Pennsylvania. Curry brought season after season of success to Berwick.
There wasn't an empty seat in the house as both sides filled the air with chants, screams and full-blooded spirit. Thousands poured into Crispin Field, known as the house Curry built.
Most Bulldogs said they welcomed Curry back, though a few went off on tangents about hard feelings when it came to Curry.
Police maintained a stronger-than-usual presence. There were no reports of violence.
The final score, Wyoming Valley West 35, Berwick 32.
