TANNERSVILLE, MONROE COUNTY - While the economy has left a bitter taste at many restaurants, one in the Poconos is enjoying the sweet flavor of success. "I still think you have to go out and have some fun," said Trip Ruvane. He owns the Barley Creek Brewing Company in Tannersville.
He said the restaurant/brewery had its best winter season ever. Thanks in part to the great ski season at the nearby Camelback Resort. You have to pass Barley Creek to get to the mountain. That's how Tad Skoczynski discovered the restaurant. He said, "I was passing by, I saw the sign."
The place doesn't just cater to tourists. It also focuses on locals. In fact, hundreds of them have their own mugs that are kept right above the bar. Ruvane said, "I don't want to sound too cheesy but you know like Cheers, we actually know your name."
Bill Sopko owns one of the bar mugs. He said he likes the food, the beer and the atmosphere at Barley Creek. He explained, "I'm a big believer that architecture creates a feeling and the architecture here with the big ceilings, the beams, the cool bar back here, the stones, it's just very nice."
Ruvane said investing in upgrades keeps people coming back. He recently completed an addition so more guests can dine at once. He said, "We had everything tricked out so the guests were provided a wonderful experience."
It looks like Trip Ruvane knows how to brew a good beer and a successful business.
Barley Creek also hosts brewery tours and beer tastings. For more information visit . | |
