It is a very busy day. In fact, it's the busiest day at the Post Office.
The U.S. Postal Service is handling a predicted quarter billion Christmas cards, letters and packages today. If you did not drop off those holiday greetings today you still have time. Hundreds of thousands of brightly-colored envelopes starting their journey at the Wilkes-Barre post office Monday with destinations like Las Vegas and Fort Lauderdale.
Plant manager Phil Conrad expects to process more than a half million letters Monday. That is twice as much as usual and that doesn't include the potential effect of this past week's winter weather. Customers who don’t wish to stand in long lines can utilize the self service postage machines.
As for your mail to get delivery by Christmas Eve, the Post Office suggests all letters, cards and priority mail get to the post office by Thursday and Saturday is the deadline for express mail.
