Allenwood, Union County-

There’s a new exhibit on display at Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland near Allenwood. And it’s perfect for those who shy away from the zoo’s stock of reptiles and amphibians.

The new butterfly exhibit features more than 200 of the colorful creatures, 12 different species in all.

Visitors can watch the transformation from a caterpillar to a butterfly. And it’s not uncommon to have a butterfly land right on you as you stroll through the habitat.

Employees here say they’re always looking to diversify the displays.

Owner Clyde Peeling explained, “Butterflies are just universally loved. I did meet one person recently who had a phobia about butterflies, but that’s extremely unusual.”

Zookeeper John Ham noted, “Typically you’re looking at an animal through a cage. Here you’re actually in with the animals and involved with them.”

The butterfly exhibit will be on display through Columbus Day.

And of course you can still check out the usual assortment of creepy crawlers that has made Reptiland famous.
