CAPPA Eyes Third Location

CAPPA Eyes Third Location - Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 5:05PM EST

Williamsport, Lycoming County-
CAPPA- the Community Alliance for Progressive Positive Action- is expanding to a third location in Williamsport.

CAPPA will open its third location at the Pajama Factory in May.

Their mission is to connect with children through a healthy dose of academics, culture and discipline.

The organization also aims to prevent participation in gangs and violence.

10-year-old Daquarius Jackson said, “I like coming here because its fun and I don’t want to stay home. I just want to come here and do my work and get better. And my grades are coming up good.”

Shayla Edwards added, “You learn a lot and you get to meet special kinds of people.”

CAPPA volunteer Talesha Taylor explained, “The kids like it because they can discuss basic simple things they go through everyday, and they feel as though no one hears them. But in here they have a voice.”

CAPPA serves nearly 200 children around Lycoming County. Its success is being modeled in other metropolitan areas such as Philadelphia and New York.
