POCONO TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY- Packed snow and palm trees, you can find them both at Camelback Mountain this week. The resort is making the annual switch from Camelback Ski Area to Camelbeach Water Park.
That's exciting for Keri Oney, a marketing staff member. She laughed, "I like to get out on the snow in the winter, but I'm a beach girl at heart."
To make the mountain look more like Miami takes a lot of work. WBRE found one crew taking down snow fences, and others power washing chairs.
It takes about 100 employees to make the switch so even manager, like Tony Velasquez, have to pick up power washers. He said, "It keeps us busy but there's so much to do."
In addition to the regular spring cleaning, WBRE also found a major construction project. This year the park plans to add a big addition with eight water slides. Oney said, "I know it looks like a couple mounds of dirt and a couple holes in the ground over there, but it's going to be a really cool family play structure."
The switch from slopes to slides will be tough this year. Since ski season lasted longer than ever, employees have less time to finish everything.
But Keri is confident all the work will be finished by memorial day. She said, "This summer will hopefully hold as much sunshine as this winter held snow."
