SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY - The race for judge is heating up in Lackawanna County. With just four days to go, the two candidates for the Court of Common Pleas are both stumping for votes.

The judge's race is the most heated race this election season in Lackawanna County. Both candidates are currently assistant DA's in the DA's office. They both think the race will come down to qualifications and experience.

Republican Frank Castellano spent Friday morning shaking hands at the Dunmore Senior Center. He says he's the candidate with the most experience and integrity.

"Being a judge is about finding solutions to problems, the problems that plague us as a county," Castellano said.

Castellano is squaring off against Democrat Margie Bisignani Moyle. The two have debated five times over the last year. Moyle says her 21 years in law make her the best choice.

"I've practiced in federal court, family court, orphan courty, civil court and criminal court. I have handled a wide array of cases," Moyle said.

Whoever wins Tuesday will be a judge assigned to family court. Castellano has been handling juvenile cases for seven of his last 14 years.

"I'm the only one that has been in those courtrooms everyday, working on those files, dealing with those children, dealing with those families, finding solutions to the problems that affect our community," Castellano said.

But Moyle says the new judge must bring broad experiences that only she has, making her the right and real choice.

"This judge will be called upon to hear potentially first-degree murder cases, civil motion cases, court cases, orphan court cases, divorce cases," Moyle said.

Both candidates say they won't need on-the-job training. They also both point to bi-partisan support.

"The lawyers want litigators on the bench. They want judges who are ready to try cases and that's what I'm ready to do," Moyle said.

"It's easy to go out and politicize what you're going to do but I talk about what I've actually been doing and quite honestly, that's what makes me the most qualified person for this position in family court," Castellano said.

The new judge will serve a ten year term. The salary is $161,000.
