WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY -- It wasn't a typical day for Martha O'Neill, who works at the smoke shop along the 300 block of South Main Street.
"About 9 o'clock, I had some customers here in the store," said O'Neill. "We heard a crash and a large thud."
Danny's Fresh Market sits next door and was set to open later this month. But a car slammed into the front window, smashing a 15x8 foot span of glass and damaging the brick wall that supports the building.
"We could feel the vibration, and customers ran out," said O'Neill. "The one man says to these guys in the car, 'That's no place to park a car.'"
She says they backed up and took off. Police found their car, a 1997 Ford Taurus, on Franklin Street. The 15-year-old driver and his 24-year-old passenger were found on Sambourne Street, just a couple blocks away. Police are not releasing the adult's name, but they say he owns the car and could face charges.
The juvenile faces several charges, including driving without a license and leaving the scene of an accident. | |
