Lewisburg, Union County-

Some seniors in Central Pennsylvania took advantage of a free CarFit program Monday afternoon.

The program is designed to ensure seniors are operating their vehicles safely.

A trained professional goes over a checklist of proper seat, mirror, and pedal positions. Drivers are also given advice on maintaining and strengthening their driving health.

It's all in an effort to save lives.

Terry McDaniel, of Huntington Mills, explained, "Many people drive when their mind is in a million different places. If we pay attention, if we keep our speed down and wear our seatbelts, we'll have a lot less (deaths)."

Today's program was the first of its kind in Central Pennsylvania, but organizers say they are planning to hold many more.
