CARBONDALE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Carbondale mayor Justin Taylor said plans for an Ethanol manufacturing plant in nearby Mayfield Borough could cause some concerns for people in his community.

Mayor Taylor sent a 2-page letter to members of Mayfield's Borough Council questioning potential problems with possible emissions from the proposed ethanol plant.

Taylor said one third of his community is within one mile of the proposed plant site. That area might face evacuation if there was ever an accident at the plant. Mayor Taylor said Carbondale's emergency responders would probably be the first called to the scene if there were to be an accident.

Taylor said he's also opposed to a request by the company seeking to build the plant, to rezone 37 acres around the site from residential to manufacturing. He said that could open the door to other unwanted businesses.
