Carbondale Property Owners Face Tax Hike

Carbondale Property Owners Face Tax Hike - Monday, December 3, 2007 at 1:21PM EST

CARBONDALE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Property owners in Carbondale are probably facing a tax hike because of an $800,000 deficit in the city's proposed budget for 2008.

Mayor Justin Taylor says expenses have been going up much faster than revenues in the city. The property tax there hasn't been raised in the past 15 years.

Next year, however, the tax is expected to go up by three to four million. The increase would mean about $30 more per year for most homeowners.

The budget must be approved by Carbondale City Council by December 31st.
