Catholic Teacher Rally

Catholic Teacher Rally - Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at 10:21PM EST

Wednesday, Jan 30, 2008 @10:21pm EST
SCRANTON, LACKWANNA COUNTY -A huge rally was held on Wednesday by the Scranton Diocese Association of Catholic Teachers.

They were out in full force along with other labor leaders showing their support for a union.

Last week, the Scranton Diocese said it would not recognize the teacher's union.

On Wednesday the teachers along with family and staff held a prayer service and then a rally to show their united front to keep their union.

Michael Milz of Scranton. Diocese Association of Catholic Teacher, "They're not recognizing our teacher's union, it’s an egregious breach of the social teachings of the church, and they’ve thrown out the window, 100 years of social justice teachings. We are here to tell them it's not going to stand and as you see people here believe the same thing.

In a statement released Tuesday, the diocese said it was committed to "fair and just treatment of all its employees," and that the employee relations program will fulfill the commitment.
