WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- Catholic teachers want state laws changed to support their fight to unionize. Teachers announced Friday afternoon a proposed bill that would close a loophole, entitling them to coverage under state labor laws.

Right now, catholic school teachers aren't guaranteed that right they say is given to all other Americans. Michael Milz of the Association of Catholic Teachers told WBRE News, "We ask that all citizens in our area write or call our representatives in the General Assembly asking them to become co-sponsors of this legislation, which I have to say, will do nothing more but level the playing field for Catholic school lay teachers."

The battle of Catholic school teachers to organize in the Scranton diocese continues on. A rally is planned for June 14th on Wilkes-Barre's Public Square.

The diocese is reviewing the proposed legislation, but has no further comment.
