The Luzerne county coroner says a mother and daughter died from smoke inhalation in a Wilkes-Barre fire.
Nancy and Caroline kostelnick died early Monday morning when their Chester Street home caught fire.
But investigators aren't releasing what they think caused this fire and until they do, some neighbors aren't resting easy.
Police took Kostelnick family belongings out of their Chester Street house.
We asked the Luzerne County coroner about his ruling, asking if there were any wounds or anything prior to their smoke inhalation.
Coroner John Corcoran said, “Right now we're not saying anything until the police, the Wilkes-Barre police, state police and the d-a’s office finish their investigation."
Luzerne County district attorney Jackie Musto Carroll says that investigation is intense.
Police were still surrounding the home late Tuesday.
Neighbors on Chester Street are anxiously awaiting the investigation results.
Dolores Evans lives across the street from the Kostelnick’s house and says, "That's terrifying, it's terrifying."
Evans says she knew the Kostelnick family well.
"The kids were always on my porch. I taught them to read and everything," says Evans.
Flowers were left in remembrance at the door of what's left of the former Kostelnick house.
George Kostelnick, the father and husband, got out of that fire safely.
The district attorney won't say if he has been questioned in this investigation.
She did say several people have been questioned over the past two days.
