Hughesville, Lycoming County-

A retiring postal worker was honored in Hughesville Tuesday for his decades of dedicated service.

Jim Pearson delivers.

For 36 years, he’s been delivering mail around Hughesville. He’s logged more than a million miles, without a single accident.

Postmaster Maggie Magagna noted, “Jim has been very loyal to the postal service in all the years he’s been here. And he has always helped any of the employees who have ever needed help.”

Pearson is retiring at the end of this week.

Family, friends, and co-workers came together at the post office Tuesday to celebrate a safe and successful career.

Pearson said, “I wondered why people kept coming in. I thought boy there’s something going on here, but I didn’t know it was for me.”

Pearson says he’s enjoyed the many routes he has run and people he has met over the years.

Jim’s wife, Kay Pearson, said, “He knows more than I do and he’s not from here. I was born and raised in Hughesville and he moved in, but he knows more people than I do just because of being with the mail and everything.”

Jim laughed, “I’m almost sorry I quit after all this! But yeah it’s a good job, always been a good job.”

His coworkers say a whole lot of skill and dedication and a little bit of luck are the keys to Jim’s successful performance on the job.

Pearson also runs a bicycle shop in downtown Hughesville.

And as he gets ready to ride off into the sunset, his co-workers want to deliver one last message.

Magagna added, “Just to say good luck on your retirement, Jim, and thank you for all your years of dedication to the postal service. We do appreciate it.”

Jim Pearson says he’ll continue to run his bicycle shop after he retires. He added that he hopes to get back to riding more often.
