Celebration Weekend Events Held All Over NEPA

Celebration Weekend Events Held All Over NEPA - Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 10:00PM EST

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- Events were held across Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania to raise money for the Janet Weis Children's Hospital near Danville. One of those events was in Luzerne County where some small children showed up with big hearts.
Caring for kids -- by kids -- at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre. Riverside Elementary West raised over $700 for the Children's Miracle Network. 2nd grader Kyle Buchalski said, “We raised a lot of money and donated one dollar for candy and balloons."

The young "Justin Credible" makes magic in more ways than one, performing for children in the hospital. “I feel like I've accomplished something and that makes me feel good," he said.

Plenty of adults pitched in too. Volunteers dished out a delicious breakfast -- and a dose of reality.

From serious medical conditions to a simple sprain, any child may one day be in need of Geisinger's special services -- like the new Pediatric Urgent Care Unit, open since 2007.

Unit Director Dr. Christopher Holtz said, “There certainly was a need in the community. In the first two years we've seen over 20,000 sick children."

Kids like Ronald now have a place to go for emergency treatment when their family doctor isn't around.

Ronald and the K-Kids from the Swoyersville Kiwanis Club raised $100 for CMN. Sunday’s event teaches kids that they can help other kids and help make miracles happen, just like our magician, making miracles happen in a big way.
