SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY

While some companies are cutting their work force, the U. S. Census Bureau has begun a recruitment campaign.

The census will be conducted in 2010. But preparations for that nation wide head count are already underway.

The Bureau's Scranton office is trying to recruit between 3,000 and 3,500 workers in northeastern and north central Pennsylvania. Office manager Charles Charlesworth says that some people will be hired as soon as next week. Charlesworth says some positions will involve hours that can be very flexible. Field workers will be able to earn between $11 and $14 an hour.

The Scranton office is now looking for an Office Clerk, Administrative Assistant, Recruiting Assistant, Crew Leader, Assistant Crew Leader and Enumerator.

Those interested in full or part time work with the Census Bureau can call toll free to be scheduled for a basic skills test. The number is 1-866-861-2010.
