Williamsport, Lycoming County-

Even as home sales in the U.S. remain stagnant, about 175 vendors are preparing for the 50th anniversary of the West Branch Susquehanna Builders Association home show.

Walt Nyman is one of the association's executive officers. He noted, "This is the main event that we put on for our members to display their wares and services and the things that they do best."

We stopped by as workers from a wide spectrum of businesses began to construct their exhibits. Joan Kropp of the Hite Company has about 15 years of home show experience. "You get to see everything that's new, and what is the latest thing if you're going to build or remodel, you'll have an idea of what's out there," Kropp said.

From kitchens, bathrooms, and sunrooms, to windows, lighting, carpentry, and plenty more. If it has to do with houses, you'll find it here. Vendors say home shows like this one are great because potential clients can meet with representatives from a wide variety of businesses in the homebuilding industry.

"This is the best place for them to get face to face with the marketplace," Nyman said. "It's the exposure. It gives us a lot of exposure. A lot of people don't realize all we do or how involved we are with new homes," Kropp added.

As we mentioned, a struggling economy of late has meant a slowdown in new home sales, but Spring is traditionally the time for home improvement. Either way, the West Branch Susquehanna Builders Association home show has you covered.

"With the tight money market a lot of people want to remodel this year versus building, but on the other hand, if you want to build, we've got homebuilders here also," Nyman noted.

About five thousand people are expected to attend this year's home show which runs from Thursday through Sunday.

Organizers are also conducting a canned food drive at the home show to benefit Saint Anthony’s Center.
