PORT CARBON, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY --There's a Thanksgiving tragedy tonight. A Schuylkill County neighborhood is shocked by the death of a young boy. The fire started while most of the family ate breakfast downstairs. Eyewitness News reporter Jeff Chirico was in Port Carbon. He joins us now with the latest.

Candice, this is a story that will have parents hugging their children a little tighter tonight. 2-year-old Reese Sarno was sleeping in his bedroom while fire engulfed the second floor. No one was able to get to him but neighbors say they thought something like this would happen.

Port Carbon firefighters stopped the blaze but not a neighbor's aching heart. Chris Roland says “he's a beautiful 2 year old boy and he's gone."

Chris Roland first spotted the fire when she got home from work Thursday morning. "The mother started screaming that the baby was upstairs." Thomas Lord heard the fire call to Fourth Street. He tried to climb a ladder. “We just couldn't do anything" "The smoke and heat was too much to get in and the baby --we couldn't save the baby." It was too late for two year old Reese Sarno but five people downstairs got out ok.

"It hurts really bad.

Neighbors believe the fire sparked near the chimney of the wood burning stove. That was installed two weeks ago. “Apparently the way it was installed looked suspicious. Not suspicious. Dangerous." Roland says neighbors warned borough officials of the fire hazard. Ronald Dunmoyer says “it's a shame. It should never have happened.

Firefighters in this volunteer department are feeling the pain too. Port Carbon Fire Chief Mike Welsh says “being the holiday it is tough you think about time with family and friends." ...leaving everyone more thankful. "I have a two year old. What happens if it happens to us?" But Chris still wondering what if... "I wish I could have come around that corner sooner."

Also in the home at the time of the fire, Reese's mother 37 year old Tina Gochmonosky, his sister 7 year old Brandy Levine, his 15 year old brother James Gochmonosky, 45 year old Michael Walsh, and 46 year old Stanley Oraczewski.

An autopsy will be performed Friday.

The cause has not officially been determined.
