LONG POND, MONROE COUNTY- Actor Kiefer Sutherland was one of two high profile people at the track Sunday. Cindy McCain spent this Sunday getting up close and personal with voters. The pretty, petite first lady hopeful sat snugly in the seat of a race car and took a spin around the track.
She could become the first lady -- but for Sunday -- she was the first to speed around Pocono raceway. "I'm excited. I like those Corvettes," she said.
Senator John McCain's wife Cindy took the pace car for a spin in Long Pond. "Well I'm a NASCAR fan. Well actually I'm a car racing fan. It doesn't have to be NASCAR," she added.
McCain told us she loves racing so much that she and her family have even built drift cars together. She's visited plenty of tracks - but this was her first trip to Pocono. "I'm thrilled to be here. It's the first time I've been to the Poconos so this is a real treat for me," she said.
While there she took a garage tour with NASCAR’s president, checked out a pre-race inspection, and spent some time with the fans. "It's a beautiful track. I had heard it was a lovely track and I'm glad to see it for myself," she said.
While McCain enjoyed her time zipping around the tri-oval, she told us it's not quite her favorite. "My favorite of course is Arizona – Phoenix," she said.
Of course - her husband is a Senator from the Grand Canyon State. But maybe making a few friends at Pocono could get the family a few laps closer to the White House.
