FALLS TOWNSHIP, WYOMINGCOUNTY- Work continues to reopen a busy road in Wyoming County, which was closed Mondaybecause of a rockslide. But getting Route 92 back to normal is a tough task
One by one large logs, treelimbs, and branches all came crashing down onto Route 92 in Falls TownshipWednesday morning as contracting crews worked to clean-up a rockslide.
It all started Monday whena large boulder, one the size of a half-car, fell from the cliff between Route307 and Whites Ferry Road.
“When that rock startedrolling, it started taking trees and other rocks and soil with it" explainedRich Bohr of PennDOT.
Crews from Jaflo TreeService were brought in to stabilize the cliff. But that's no easy task. Usingropes and bucket trucks they're repelling one hundred feet above the ground
Kelly Wood of Jaflo Tree Serviceexplained “We're repelling down off of ropes and cutting what we need to getout of the way. We’re getting the debris away so nobody gets hurt."
While Route 92 in this partof Wyoming County is closed, drivers havebeen impacted. They've been forced to take a six-mile detour. Crews expect toremove all of the overhanging trees, loose rock, and soil by Thursday.
PennDOT crews hope to re-openthe road by 5:00 pm, but safety is the name of the game.
“It could be a life anddeath situation, if that came down on them. That's why we'd rather have theroadway closed and get it taken care of and make it a safer situation"stated Bohr.
According to PennDOT, morethan 1800 cars use that part of Route 92 in Wyoming County every day. | | |
