Williamsport, Lycoming County-
Dozens of guests were served a buffet-style English high tea by students at Penn College's Le Jeune Chef Restaurant. The culinary arts students are mastering their craft while contributing to a worthy cause.
Student Kitchen Supervisor Cassandra George said, "It's a lot of fun because we're putting a lot of ourselves into it."
They spent hours preparing a delicious luncheon, whose profits are being donated to the American Rescue Workers Men's Center.
The idea came about after a group of students gave cooking demonstrations at the Men's Center this spring. During that trip, the students saw the Center's need for upgraded kitchen facilities.
Kevin Carroll, director of the Men’s Center, explained, "It makes us feel really good here at the Rescue Workers that somebody else in the community is coming alongside of us to help us with what we're doing."
The Men's Center will use the money to buy a large mixer and other equipment. That will, in turn, help them to provide meals for those in need on holidays and throughout the winter.
Carroll noted, "People helping people. That's what we do and there are a lot of people out there that need help, particularly I think this year's going to be really tough."
Tough times are nothing new to the American Rescue Workers. They've survived fires at both their church and warehouse this year alone. But it seems the adversity only makes them stronger.
Carroll added, "We have bounced back. And you know it's been the employees, the men at the shelter, and the public who have come together. The city of Williamsport has been a huge support to us."
The American Rescue Workers also have a live auction fundraiser scheduled for Tuesday, October 28th.
