WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY - More than 100 students and community members came together Monday morning to remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Students lifted their voices in song, as people remembered Dr. King's dream of equality and unity.

"A lot of people in this country have dreams. A lot of people in this world have dream that they can fulfill and with God's help, you can do anything," Angela Kinamore said.

Kinamore is a writer and motivational speaker and was the keynote speaker at Monday's program. Student activists think America has made a lot of progress since the 1960s.

"I think there's a lot of changes and I think it's a move towards the better and definately I think it's a lot different than how it was back in the day," Kings College Senior Andrew Kovalski said.

People who attended the program say the 2008 presidential race is proof of how far the United States has come, since a woman and a black man are now the frontrunners for the democratic nomination.

"I think America needs this change to show that we have come so far, not only blacks, but whites, Chinese, everyone who is a part of America," Kings College Junior Johanda Laloi said.

Despite the advances, many people still admit there is work to be done to overcome hate and adversity, but with each passing day, they know we are closer to making Dr. King's vision a reality.

"I'm an optimistic person and I think we are closer, but we all have to work together. That is the key, not just talk about it, but work. Do the action. That is what is missing," Kinamore said.
