Columbia Co. Missing Woman

Columbia Co. Missing Woman - Thursday, September 4, 2008 at 10:26PM EST

Thursday, Sep 4, 2008 @ 10:26pm EST

Lansford, Columbia County -

This has been a missing person’s case since December, but sources close to this case tell Eyewitness News they have new information that leads them to believe that Edwina Onyango may be dead.

Edwina Onyango had no reason whatsoever to simply vanish or take off without warning. She lived in this house on West Bertsch Street with her husband, Ernest Freeby. She was last seen in this neighborhood on or about December 9th of last year.

Eyewitness News went to her house to try and talk with Mr. Freeby about his wife's disappearance. Eyewitness News was met by Patricia Gordon who said she was Freeby's mother. At first she did not want to talk and then insisted that Onyango, who is a native of Kenya , took off. Patricia states, “She doesn't want to go back to Kenya so she ran. That is exactly what she did she ran. All of a sudden now my son is the bad guy who's the victim here. Police say foul play was involved. I saw her in Easton a couple of months ago. I told cops about that. They didn't want to hear that."

Onyango was going through the process of becoming an American citizen. Gordon told Eyewitness News that the process was not going well. Sources close to the investigation tell Eyewitness News that the last time she was seen was in this neighborhood and that all of their information leads to this neighborhood.

Patricia Gordon says, “I can't answer for him ok, all I know is everybody says she is the victim. She's the victim who is the victim here. She's in this country illegally."

State police who are handling this investigation are not commenting whether or not they have a suspect in this disappearance. But they do believe foul play was involved. If you have any information call state police at Hazleton or 9-1-1 .
