Commonwealth Medical College Hopes for Reversal of Budget Cuts
Commonwealth Medical College Hopes for Reversal of Budget Cuts - Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 3:51PM EST
SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- The Dean of the new Commonwealth Medical College is hoping the state legislature will override budget cuts proposed by Governor Ed Rendell.
Dr. Robert D'Alessandri said the newly formed medical school stands to lose four and one half million dollars in operating costs under the budget proposed by the governor on Wednesday. Dr. D'Alessandri said development of the school is an economic stimulus for the area and the state which will create hundreds of new jobs.
Even if the funding is not restored Dr. D'Alessandri says the school intends to open as scheduled on August 9th.
Site preparation work is already underway for the school's Medical Science Building. The initial class of students will begin classes in space being provided to the Medical College by Lackawanna College. | |
