POCONO SUMMIT, MONROE COUNTY - Now that President Barack Obama has moved into the White House many of the people who helped put him there are looking for something to do with their excited energy.
Volunteers say they helped a woman pack boxes and fix faucets because of President Barack Obama. "We wanted to help an individual that lives in our community," said Francesca Turturro a founding member of "Community 4 Change." It's made up of former Obama campaign workers.
"We wanted to maintain this energy that we had and continue doing the work," said Turturro. Obama's victory energized them to make a difference. Their first project was to fix up Jeannie Regan's house. Regan said, "They are a Godsend. They are a blessing because I didn't know what I was going to do."
Jeannie lives in Pocono Summit. Her friends and family live in California. She had to move here for work several years ago. But now she's retired and prepared to go back home. But she's had trouble selling her house. "It's hard for me to ask for help, I'm pretty independent," she explained.
She needed help to move furniture and piles of clutter. The house also needed plumbing, electrical work and a fresh coat of paint. Community for change took care of it all.
"The people themselves are so friendly and so nice ans so sweet," said Regan.
In addition to doing community service projects, Community for Change also plans to focus on community organizing.
"To really organize the community around issues that we feel are important for the people living here," said Turturro. Those issues include helping children and establishing a commuter rail line. They believe they can do it all with their new found inspiration.
Turturro laughed, "Yes we can. Yes we did. Yes we will!"
