DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- A community began building a new playground in memory of a baby who lost his life.

Volunteers were out in full force in Dunmore Saturday starting construction on the Ryan Mason play area. It's located at St. Anthony's Memorial Park.

Ryan Mason died last year just after his first birthday from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Family, friends and neighbors are now working in shifts to get the playground up and running in his memory.

Organizer Diane Michalczyk said, "When our son passed away last year we knew there would be a lot of people looking to help and what could they do and we just decided our son was a very happy boy always playing always smiling. We decided the best thing to do is to find a place for other kids can play and find happiness and joy and we decided to put a park in."

Donations can still be made at First National Community Bank in Dunmore. They hope the Ryan Mason Michalczyk Fund will allow them to expand the park next year.
