A concrete collapse in Scranton trapping a construction worker underneath a sidewalk.
It happened just after 10:30 this morning on Lackawanna Avenue.
Construction workers lowered a stretcher underneath Affa's gallery's on Lackawanna Avenue in Scranton.
They rescued Spano's construction worker, Dan Genevich, after a concrete slab fell on him.
City of Scranton public safety detective Ray Hayes says, "it appears the jack holding the sidewalk kicked out."
Scranton public safety says a worker used a circular saw, like this one, to cut concrete from the sidewalk.
The concrete collapsed quickly on top of Genevich below.
He was taken to Community Medical Center with non life threatening injuries.
City of Scranton public safety says there are empty spaces, or vaults underneath sidewalks in the city, like the one next to Affa Gallery.
That's what this crew is filling up right now."
Hayes says, "there are still areas of the city where there are vaults under the city and what they are doing now is filling some of those vaults."
The construction is part of the Lackawanna avenue revitalization project.
Filling the empty space under the sidewalk was part of that project.
By late afternoon the saw was back up and running, and concrete was being cut once again. | |
