Considering PNC Field vendors

Considering PNC Field vendors - Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 5:42PM EST

Lackawanna County 's Stadium Authority wants to play ball with a new concession vendor.

Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees ownership broke it's contract with a vendor this month.

At Wednesday’s Stadium Authority meeting, owners told us about their replacement plans.

At PNC Field, there's no concessions vendor in place to serve drinks, hot dogs and other food.

Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees ownership hopes to change that before opening day.

Mandalay president Art Matin says, "This is really about improving the quality for our fans.

Mandalay , the company managing the Scranton Wilkes-barre yankees, says it's considering 3 vendors.

This month Mandalay terminated its contract with Concessions Plus Inc.

Mandalay is suing the company for breach of contract, poor food quality and failure to make payments.

Matin says, "As everybody knows the food experience, especially in minor league baseball is a very big part of whether people enjoy themselves at a game or not."

Matin says he hopes a new company will provide better food packages for fans at the game.

Right after the contract was terminated thousands of dollars in equipment was reported taken from inside the stadium club.

The Moosic police department says that case is being handled in civil court.

While that case moves through court, the Stadium Authority is waiting for Mandalay 's next move.

"We have to be certainly up and running by the beginning of april,” says Stadium Authority member Bill Jenkins.

And time is ticking.

Pitchers and catchers report in a few weeks.

Jenkins says, "That's why it's extremely important to get somebody in and get somebody hired so they can get their feet wet down at the stadium."

In hopes that company will be ready for the first crack of the bat.

Lackawanna County 's Stadium Authority will meet with Mandalay again next Wednesday.

Both the authority and Mandalay won't give a specific deadline on when they're making their vendor choice.

They also won’t release the company names they’re considering.
