POTTSVILLE, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY- Angry gun owners fired up over their second amendment rights took aim at Pottsville City Council. Monday evening members unanimously approved a new gun control ordinance.

It requires owners to report lost or stolen firearms within 24 hours. They could face stiff fines and even jail time for ignoring the ordinance. Reaction to tonight's controversial vote was mixed.

Mayor John Reiley said, "During the first reading the NRA showed up in full regalia, with hats and shirts. When they saw the substance of the ordinance they said there is no problem with this. If someone breaks into your house and steals cash, jewelry, steals you car, you report it to police, and that is all this is requiring the person, the gun owner, to do."

Scott Thomas of the GOP State Committee said, "Gun owners who have their gun stolen if they don't report it within 24 hours they become criminals and it’s wrong, it’s unconstitutional."

Council members say this a proactive measure to keep gun violence down in the city.
