WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- A Lancaster man who pleaded guilty to third degree murder in connection with the death of his former girlfriend last year has been sentenced for the crime.

Brandon Dennison, 22, will spend between 15 to 40 years behind bars for the murder of 21-year-old Amanda Kates.

Kates was killed in June, 2006 when prosecutors say Dennison fired several gunshots outside a party in Wilkes-Barre.

Members of the Kates family say this does not take away what Dennison did.

Sister of the victim, Nina Kates said, "He knows what he did and he's going to live with that guilt for the rest of his life."

Lauren Kates, another sister of the victim said, "No matter what he says or does it doesn't make up for his actions that night, he knew what he was doing, he could've stopped it."

Dennison apologized to the Kates family in court Friday.

He pleaded guilty to the charges back in August.
