WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- Wilkes-Barre police are explaining why they had to shoot a dog during 4th of July activities along the city's river common.
Police responded to reports of a pit bull running unattended late Saturday afternoon near South River and Market Streets.
Officers were unable to control the dog and couldn't track down the dog's owner. The pit bull ran to the rear of the American Legion Building on River Street.
The dog then charged at an officer who shot the animal. Police say deadly force was necessary to protect the officer and others near the river common. | |
