Update: Sunbury Police Corporal Michael Miller died early Sunday morning at the hospital. The coroner said he shot himself in the head.

SUNBURY, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY -- A police officer is involved in a deadly case of domestic violence. Sunbury Police Corporal Michael Miller is critically injured in a hospital and his wife is dead.

A wedding photo from Facebook shows happy newlyweds Michael and Robin Miller. The website lists their anniversary as September of 2008. A year and a half later - domestic violence shattered this image.

Josh Hines of Sunbury said, "I heard like four gun shots. Four or five gunshots going off."

Hines lives near the Miller home on Catawissa Avenue in Sunbury. He heard the shots around 2:00 Saturday morning. "I saw a bunch of cop cars pulling up and police. They had the area blocked off," said Hines.

Police discovered Robin Miller dead. Her husband police Corporal Michael Miller was seriously injured and taken to a hospital. Michael works for the Sunbury Police Department. Neighbors say he was a drug abuse education officer in area schools.

Police would not say who fired the weapon. They also wouldn't confirm if it was the corporal's police issued gun.

Some neighbors told Eyewitness News that the couple had a history of fighting but wouldn't give us any details.

Most neighbors in this tight knit community refused to talk to us at all. As we walked down the street doors closed and windows were slammed shut.

Police were also protective of the Miller family. When people showed up to collect belongings from the house - they saw us and called police. Officers from three departments - including Sunbury - told us to stay far away while the visitors carried items out of the home.

Sunbury's police chief did not answer our repeated phone calls. A dispatcher at the Northumberland County Communication Center said because of a potential conflict of interest - Pennsylvania State Police at Stonington are conducting the investigation.

Corporal Miller is listed in critical condition at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
