SPRINGBROOK TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Firefighters from two counties and the forestry department battled a large brush fire Tuesday afternoon and evening.
The fire crews were called to the scene near Aston Mountain Road just after 3:00 P.M. They spent the day and night fighting the large fire by land and air. They dropped three to four air tankers of water on the blaze.
Jack Zborovian, a DCNR Forest Fire Specialist Supervisor with the Department of Forestry says they are slowly getting that fire under control. "We had a hard time getting our crews in here. Most of the time we can get our one inch forestry lines and other types of hose lines. We couldn't do this. This fire was put out by Indian Tanks," he said.
The fire is in a very remote location and is not threatening any homes. Right now, it is contained. The Red Cross was also on the scene providing food and water for the firefighters.
