SMITHFIELD TOWNSHIP - Aiden Nieman has a new crib because his old one was much too dangerous.
A few months ago his mother Janine checked on him and noticed a problem.
She said, "I went into his room and one of the spindles or slots was on the floor."
Jardine, the crib company sent a new piece and the family replaced the old one. They thought everything would be fine but they were wrong.
A week later, Janine heard her son scraming. She explained, "It was just a really loud cry and scream, almost like hyperventilating."
When she went into his room, she was terrified. A crib slat had fallen out and his head was stuck between two other slats.
The family demanded a refund and eventually got one from Jardine.
Janine said, "It already had happened two times whose to say it wouldn't happen a third time."
Turns out, it happened several times. Across the country four kids, including Aiden have reportedly been trapped in Jardine cribs.
Forty-two people reported broken slats.
Stores recalled more than 300,000 cribs Tuesday and Janine is relieved because now all parents are warned to pay extra attention to the cribs they buy.
The recalled cribs were sold by Toys 'R' Us and Babies 'R' us between January of 2002 and May of this year. | |
