LITTLE MEADOWS, SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY- A mark of hatred was seared into a utility pole outside the Johnson-Cohen residence. Archie Johnson told Eyewitness News he was getting up like any other morning early Thursday and saw a cross smoldering on the pole a few yards from his door.
Johnson and his partner, Ruth Cohen, said they're angered and apprehensive by the apparent hate crime. State Police were investigating the incident, but would not comment on specifics. They would only say "reports of a cross burning in the front yard of a mixed-race couple were being investigated."
Johnson said he's lived in the small town of about 300 people for the last five years. He said he's never had any trouble. Neighbors shared feelings of outrage with Eyewitness News, saying police should be pressured to move quickly to make an arrest in the case. Police would not say if there were any leads on a perpetrator.
