We're learning much more about a man who led police on a cross-country manhunt. Police say Brian Amrowski of Benton took off in his dead wife's rental car. He was found weeks later in Nevada.
Prosecutors are now saying Amrowski also tried to hide his identity after stealing this car. His wife's death remains under investigation.
Brian Amrowski was led into Luzerne County Central Court Thursday morning. Prosecutors say he stole his dead wife's rental car, skipped town, and tried to hide his identity along the way.
Rebecca Amrowski's family came to this hearing but declined to talk to us. The pictures of Rebecca pinned to their shirts made a statement.
One family member wanted a closer look at Amrowski as he sat handcuffed in a police car. Rebecca's family appears to be looking for answers surrounding her mysterious death.
She was found dead with a gunshot wound inside her Fairmount Township apartment more than a month ago. Three days earlier, Rebecca rented a car.
That same night police say Brian Amrowski stole that car with a friend. At Thursday's hearing, prosecutors say Amrowski ditched the car in Nebraska and was arrested in Nevada.
Brian's sister, June Amrowski is standing by his side. "I can't picture Brian doing anything wrong." Reporter Mike Trim asks, "Why do you think he took that car so far?" June says, "I don't know, maybe just hanging with his buddies, decided to have a good time."
The District Attorney's office says Rebecca Amrowski's death is still under investigation. Brian's bail was increased from $10,000 to $50,000.
Amrowski's preliminary hearing was continued this morning. Right now, police have only filed charges for the car theft.
No charges have been filed in connection with Rebecca Amrowski's death. | | |
