STROUDSBURG - Some may say when Gary Smith lost his job, he lost his mind. The former WSBG radio host, known as "Gary in the Morning," spent part of Wednesday acting like a bum in downtown Stroudsburg.
Station Managers fired Gary in April after he turned the Don Imus controversy into an on air game. The radio group put Imus back on the air this week but they will not bring Gary back.
He said, "A lot of people were worried about me since I've been fired from the radio station but everything is fine."
Station Vice President Maureen Barth was not available for comment Wednesday but she has said she can't bring Gary back because he sensationalized a sensitive issue. Gary told us he understands. "I love Maureen," he explained, "She was like a Grandmother to me."
In an unusual effort to prove he is really doing fine Gary set up on the street corner. The stunt encouraged people to check out his upcoming online radio show.
People stopped to stare. Many gave money.
People who listened to Gary's show know that the silly display is typical silliness for the DJ but he did have a more serious message. "I've got no time to be angry," he said "I'm just trying to make a living."
Gary laughed off what many call an unfair situation and he hopes that sense of humor helps him launch hi new online venture.
WBRE News spoke with many people who saw Gary's display. Some said they support him and believe he should get his job back. Others said he got exactly what he deserved.
