Day Two: Blood Donor Days
Day Two: Blood Donor Days - Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 8:52PM EST
Scranton, Lackawanna County -
Debbie Ozark gives blood Thursday at the Red Cross blood center in Scranton . For her, it is something she doesn't even have to think about. It's the right and easy thing to do. Debbie Ozark, of Thornhurst says, "It's easy. They really take care of you. The nurses are fantastic. They talk you right through it. It's a piece of cake."
On another bed nearby is her friend, Kristin Davis. The two work together in Lackawanna County and began a blood donor tradition several years ago. Kristin Davis, of Scranton says, "We're just trying to get back into donating again. My co-workers started coming several months ago. It's good for the community."
Louise Scotch, of Moscow , is giving platelets. She can do this more often than giving just blood. Louise says, "From what I understand hospitals put in an order for platelets. Platelets are only good for 4 to 5 days. It only takes 2 days for your body to replace them. I can come here every two weeks. With blood you can only come every 56 days but that has a longer shelf life.” | |
