LaPLUME, LACKAWANNA COUNTY
Parents with kids at the Oppenheim's Family Children's Center on the campus of Keystone College say they're concerned about what they call a dangerous cross walk in front of the school. The cross walk is on College Road which runs through the center of the Keystone campus.
Alex Townsend has a daughter at the school. He says drivers often ignore the 25-mile-per-hour speed limit in front of the school. Townsend says he has stood near the cross walk with his daughter and seen people driving by at 45miles an hour that pay no attention to the pedestrian crossing. Townsend and some of the other parents want speed bumps or stop signs set up near the crossing to make it safer.
Officials at Keystone College agree. But the road belongs to LaPlume Township. Supervisors there would have to improve any safety measures along College Road.
College officials say they would be willing to pay for stop signs if the Township approves them.
The issue is expected to be discussed at a Township Supervisor's meeting this month. | |
