Deadly Williamsport Shooting Still Under Investigation - Monday, June 14, 2010 at 04:08AM EST

WILLIAMSPORT, LYCOMING COUNTY -- A man is dead after an early morning shooting in Williamsport.

Neighbors say they're concerned about the second episode of deadly violence on their street in less than a year.

Police are still not saying too much about Monday morning's fatal shooting in the 1500 block of Scott Street.

They have now identified the man shot and killed as 33-year-old Abdul Miller, of the Milton area.

Authorities say, around two Monday morning, a resident at 1510 Scott Street called 9-1-1 to report a burglary in progress.

Neighbors say shots were fired from inside the house just minutes before police arrived.

Neighbor Richard Parker said, "I heard the three shots, I looked out, and all of a sudden, you seen police cruisers coming up."

Police remained on the scene for several hours questioning neighbors and searching the Scott Street home for evidence.

At this point, they say no arrests have been made.

But neighbors say the violence has to stop.

Neighborhood Watch Leader Maynard Homler explained, "I've lived on this street for 11 years. I mean the city of Williamsport is growing and it's sometimes not in better ways."

Parker noted, "We've had different problems here in the neighborhood and we try to iron them out. But at times, it don't work."

Back in September, a 26-year-old black man was killed just one block away, in the 1400 block of Scott Street.

Now, as then, people around here are calling for more police patrols and a higher level of community involvement.

Homler added, "People gotta get together. Neighborhoods gotta band together. They don't have any other choice. They have to get out, band together, go to their neighborhood meetings."

To that end, Maynard Homler tells Eyewitness News his group has a meeting scheduled for Monday night at 7 at the All Saints Church right here on Scott Street.

We're told all neighbors are being encouraged to attend.
