Deliveries to Pennsylvania Patriots

Deliveries to Pennsylvania Patriots - Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 8:35PM EST

Thursday, Sep 11, 2008 @ 08:35pm EST
Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County -

A load up line funnels dozens of care packages and dial soap onto this truck. The boxed up goodies are all part of a very special mission. Luzerne County's Union for Soldiers collected the items over the summer for their relatives serving overseas.
Judy Dougherty's son Sean is a Sergeant with the 109th First Battalion Field Artillery. She hopes he will be surprised for his upcoming birthday.
Military connections out of Pittsburgh will ship everything over to the soldiers. County employees say they're pleased they received the extra help.
Specialist Howard Davies says it's so important to hear from people back home while wearing the uniform. He say's "It's wonderful. When we get back from doing missions there's nothing like getting a box from home. Newspapers, soap. You always take it for granted when overseas. It's always nice to receive packages no matter what it is."
Hundreds of donated newspapers will also be included in that shipment. The cost of the send-off and the truck will be split between the union and military connections of Pittsburgh.
