Doctor Pleads Guilty After Death of Elderly Woman
Doctor Pleads Guilty After Death of Elderly Woman - Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 6:05PM EST
SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- After three years, the high-profile case of a Lackawanna County doctor has come to an end. Doctor Gregory Salko, and his company, entered a guilty plea Wednesday afternoon in connection with the death of an elderly woman.
Dr. Salko did not appear in court for Wednesday’s plea because it was done on behalf of his company Phoenix Healthcare. As part of the plea Salko will not go to jail. Phoenix Healthcare pled guilty to two charges, one was tampering with evidence, and the other was a drug charge.
The charges come after the death of 69-year-old Peggy Rogers in 2006. She was a patient of the Birch Hills Residence Home in Simpson. His company was accused of poor care and neglect which ultimately led to her death. As a part of Wednesday’s plea Phoenix Healthcare will be fined 300-thousand dollars.
Dr. Salko will also lose his medical license until October and can't prescribe many medications for three years. All other charges were also dropped. Lawyers for neither side say this was the settlement they wanted but they both called it fair.
Prosecutors say if Gregory Salko tries to get his medical license reinstated they plan to fight it. | |
