EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY - Plants and trees look nice this time of year but for many people, the pollen they produce isn't so nice. "I don't like it at all," said Angeliz Lopez of Tobyhanna. She has bad allergies. She explained, "It gets my eyes like really swollen and stuff and my eyes get really itchy. It's really bad."
Her doctor said she is not alone. Doctor Rajesh Bhagat said, "I have seen allergies steadily rising over the years."
Dr. Bhagat has been practicing medicine for 25 years. He said allergies are especially bad this fall because of the wet summer. He explained, "The ground is wet and therefore the growth of the plants is very exuberant." In addition to all the extra pollen this season the Dr. told us mold could also be a problem.
The doctor said medication can help many people but it's not the only thing. You can also try to stay indoors during high pollen times, like the early morning.
He also suggested allergy sufferers shower and wash their hair before bed. He explained, "So the pollens can be washed off of their hair so that the pollens will cause less of a problem at night when they are sleeping." | |
