PARADISE TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY- A man is recovering after his dog bit off his hand in the Poconos.

State police were called after John Venezia didn't show up for work Tuesday.

They checked his Paradise Township home.

They found him lying unconscious in the hallway.

His right hand was missing.

It had been bitten off by a pit bill in the house.

Venezia was taken to the hospital where he's in intensive care.

Police shot and killed the dog after it lunged at the trooper.
