Donating Christmas Trees for Troops

Donating Christmas Trees for Troops - Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at 3:50PM EST

CATAWISSA TWP., COLUMBIA COUNTY- Families of Pennsylvania Patriots serving overseas are about to get a special delivery from Columbia County.

More than 200 Christmas trees were donated from 17 area growers Wednesday afternoon. It’s all part of the annual trees for troops program. A majority of these trees will go to military families, but others will be shipped overseas to the war zone to brighten the soldiers’ holidays.

National Guard Soldier Maggie Bryan said, "You have two-year-olds and three-year-olds that don't understand that their father serves, or their mother serves a bigger role. This will help to remind them."

Tracy Sudol of Abraczinskas Nurseries said, "A little bit of evergreen, could cheer them up, make them think a little more of their family, if that's possible."

Organizers say all of the trees donated from Columbia County will go to Pennsylvania soldiers and their families.
