WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY -- Wilkes-Barre residents are entitled to free flu shots through the city's health department -- something dozens of people took advantage of on Saturday with a special drive-thru clinic.
"The whole thing wasn't even five minutes," said Dawn Reichart. "It was the fastest drive-thru I've been through. They should all be like this!"
The Wilkes-Barre Health Department opted for the drive-thru clinic after successful ones in other parts of the state.
"I've been coming here for the past few years now, and this is the first time it's a drive-thru," said Steve Remish. "I think it's great!"
The health department says many places charge as much as $30 for the flu shot, something that could've cost the Langan family $150.
"It was a lot quicker than the doctor's office," said Melissa Langan, with her husband and three sons. "It was nice, we could pull right up, and it was free."
Saving money is something none of these people are taking for granted.
"Right now, with the economy, this is just a really good program," said Cheryl Owens. "I really appreciate them doing this."
There will be another free flu shot clinic for Wilkes-Barre residents on Monday from 10am to 12pm at the Kirby Health Center along North Franklin Street. But you'll have to walk inside for that one. The director plans on having at least two drive-thru clinics next year. | | |
