Dunmore Fire Ruled Arson

Dunmore Fire Ruled Arson - Friday, April 2, 2010 at 04:03AM EST

Reported by: Mike Trim
Friday April 02 2010
DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- A home destroyed by fire in Dunmore is now a case of arson. And it's not the first time it's happened in that neighborhood.

The double block home was badly damaged by the blaze late Thursday afternoon. While this fire was ruled arson it's not clear exactly how the fire was started.

Investigators are focusing on a back porch. Earlier Eyewitness News talked with one person who lives here. He was on his computer when the building's owner frantically told him to get out of the house.

Before he got out he tried to put the fire out himself, but it spread too quickly. Stephen Quigley said, "It's really a shame. I mean that someone could do this to two families. I mean, I've seen a lot of stories on the news, people losing their home and all their possessions. I mean, some fatal, some not. Now I can truly sympathize."

If you have any information on this arson investigation, call police.

Also, less than a mile away from the arson investigation another house fire broke out in Dunmore.

There was heavy damage inside a home on the 100 block of Church Street. No one was home at the time, but we're told some construction workers were inside doing some re-modeling. Nobody was hurt.

Firefighters believe they've pinpointed the source of this fire and say it started accidentally.
