EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY- A week after a deadly fire in Monroe County a university is trying to find ways to teach off campus students about fire safety.
Last Thursday a fire on Analomink Street in East Stroudsburg killed two people including East Stroudsburg University junior Jeff Dailey. Now ESU officials want to educate students who live off campus how to keep themselves safe.
Doug Smith of East Stroudsburg University explained "Oftentimes the students have never lived away from home and don't fully grasp the dangers that may be lurking in their living environment."
University officials said state law prevents them from getting too involved in off campus housing issues. But they plan to meet with East Stroudsburg Borough Council members to find ways to work together to keep students safe.
Some students are also working on a plan to pass out smoke detectors to their off campus classmates. | |
